Compare the benefits of Medigap Plan F and Plan G

Medigap Plan F

Medicare supplement Plan F offers the most comprehensive coverage of all Medicare supplement plans. It covers your Parts A and B deductibles, Parts A and B coinsurance or co-payments, blood, Part B excess charges and 80% of your foreign travel emergency. Essentially, Plan F policyholders will only pay their monthly premium. They will not incur any out-of-pocket costs for medical expenses approved by Medicare. Because of this, the Plan F premium is generally the most expensive. Many people choose the Plan F because of its full coverage. However, because of the difference in premiums between the Plan F and the Plan G, Plan G can sometimes be the smartest option.

Medigap Plan G

Medicare supplement Plan G is identical to Plan F, with the exception of how the Part B deductible is paid. Once Plan G policyholders pay their Part B deductible ($183 for 2017), they essentially have the Plan F. Monthly premiums for Plan G are typically much less expensive than Plan F premiums. Therefore, although the deductible is not covered, Plan G policyholders will typically save money overall with the Plan G due to the premium difference, and currently the less annual premium increases over Plan F.

Ultimately, Plan G has the same benefits as the Plan F, minus the Part B deductible ($183 for 2017). Once the Part B deductible is paid, they both offer full coverage.
