Hospital Insurance – Medicare Part A
Basic Part A benefits include:
- Inpatient care in a hospital
- Inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility (not custodial or long term care)
- Hospice care
- Home health care
- inpatient care in a religious non-medical health care institution.
There are certain financial responsibilities that come with Medicare Part A hospital insurance. These include may deductibles, copays or co-insurance.
What are the cost’s associated with Medicare Part A?
Sometimes called Hospital Insurance, Medicare Part A covers most services inside a hospital, but not all services as some may actually be covered under Part B. Original Medicare Part A has a cost structure that requires you to pay out of pocket or with the help of other insurance coverage like a Medigap plan or Medicare Advantage plan. Here’s what the deductibles and co-insurance of Part A looks like as of 2017.
- $1316 deductible for each inpatient hospital stay when you have not been in the hospital during the previous 60 days.
- $329 per day for days 61 – 90 of a consecutive hospital stay
- $658 per day for days 91 – 150 of a consecutive hospital stay
- Any and all costs for day 150 and beyond
